Last Tuesday we went to Te Tuhi. We saw a matariki picture. Jeremy told us a story about the matariki picture. My favourite thing in the matariki picture was the boat. We smelled the petrol from the bus. We painted a colour wheel. I felt hiamo (excited) to be at Te Tuhi.

Making a plan for my story

We are learning to make a plan. We can make a plan for any story. Making a plan helps us to remember what happened and to write about it. We need to remember to have a topic and at least 3 ideas about the topic in our plan. It is easy to make a plan.

Counting on and down from the bigger number

We are learning to count on and down from the bigger number. I found it tricky to count down. When I got to the ty numbers, I skipped them. Now I need to practise counting backwards around the ty numbers.

Adding detail

Adding detail means our story can answer the questions who, where, when, what how and why. Detail means there will be more information . It makes the story more interesting. It makes a picture in the reader's head. It can be tricky to add detail.

Fractions

"Here I was learning about fractions like halves and quarters. I know how to make quarter of a shape. For quarters you need to make 4 equal parts of the shape. For making half, you need to divide the shape in 2 equal parts."

"I am most proud of this work because I like all the detail I put in the picture. I like all the leaves I have added in the pile. I made my picture look like it was real. I also liked the poem because I liked the ideas I used in my acrostic poem."

"We are learning about teen numbers. All teen numbers have a ten in them. We know that 18 is 10 + 8 because 18 has an 8 in it. Teen numbers are easy for me."

"I am learning about the characters and setting of the book. The characters are the people who the story is about. The setting is the place in the story. It can be tricky to find the characters and setting of the book."

Writing with Capital Letters and Full Stops

"I was learning about capital letters and putting them in the right place.  It was quite tricky because it was hard to think.  Mrs D said we had to write 4 things but it was tricky to think of the things to write.  Capital letters go at the start of the sentence and a name or a place has to have a capital letter too."
